St. Mary School Philosophy – “To Teach as Jesus Did”
St. Mary School reflects the parish’s response to Jesus’ command to “go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation” (Matthew 16:16). Our school exists to assist the parish in its educational mission of transmitting doctrines and heritage of the Catholic Church to the next generation and instilling dynamic, living faith in our youth. At the same time, we are committed to providing a sound curriculum and maintaining high academic standards.
We strive to integrate the four dimensions of Catholic education-message, community, worship, and service into our curriculum. Our goal is to develop the whole child intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and socially in addition to preparing each student to make a positive contribution to life in the Church and in society. We seek to build attitudes and values based on the foundations of Scripture and tradition, as well as relying on diocesan and other Church documents to formulate our vision of Catholic education.
By consensus, faculty members develop policies, which the Education Commission and Pastoral Council ratify and the school administrators implement. Faculty members strive to be professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, ethical, moral, and cooperative. Teachers serve as powerful role models for students by instructing in a manner that shows love, patience, fairness, and understanding-consistent with the example of Jesus Christ.
“Catholic Schools are unique expressions of the Church’s effort to achieve the purposes of Catholic education among the young. They are the most effective means available to the Church for the education of children and young people” (To Teach as Jesus Did).
