Denise T. Olsen – 6th-8th Grade Teacher
Personal Biography
I am Mrs. Denise Olsen and teach the 6th through 8th grades at St. Mary’s Parish School. My husband Kenneth and I live in Belmont, WI and attend mass at St. Mary’s and St. Philomena’s Parish in Belmont. In my free time I enjoy reading mysteries and biographies, playing with our new puppy (“Tessie”) and taking car trips to the numerous historical sites and other points of interest in nearby Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. As a former Chicagoan, I remain a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Education : I attended St. Francis of Rome Elementary School and graduated from St. Catherine of Sienna High School in Chicago, Illinois. I received my B.E. degree from National-Louis University. In furtherance of my continuing education as a teacher, I have acquired 20 additional credit hours of study.
Employment : I taught full -time for 18 years in the Norridge, Illinois elementary schools and upon relocating to Wisconsin worked as a substitute teacher in Spring Green, WI and here at St. Mary’s before coming on-board full-time.
Why I teach ? : I love my profession and working with children. I find it particularly rewarding to do so in the context of Catholic education which places the emphasis upon service to God and our fellow man. A knowledge of facts is not enough, a successful education must be tempered with an understanding of those moral laws and commandments which give purpose to the pursuit and the meaning of life itself.
