Martha Schaefer – Music Teacher
Personal Biography
My name is Mrs. Martha Schaefer and I teach K-6 Music. My husband, Jeff, and I live in Platteville with our 2 children. Matthew is 13 years old and in the 7th grade and Rachel is 10 and in 5th grade. Both our children attend St. Mary’s school. In addition to teaching music, I direct the St. Mary’s All School Children’s Choir and co-direct the spring musical. I also play piano for the weekly children’s masses. Our family belongs to St. Mary Parish, where Jeff is an usher and a Eucharistic minister. I will be soon joining the Open Ensemble (one of the choirs) and I am an occasional substitute piano player for weekend masses. In my spare time I play flute in the UW-Platteville Symphony Band. I enjoy camping with my family, reading and doing crossword puzzles. I am a Milwaukee Brewers and a Green Bay Packers fan.
Education: I graduated from Waukesha North High School and Carroll College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.
Employment: I taught at Mukwonago Public Schools from 1987-1994. Then I moved to Platteville and I substitute taught for 1 year, then worked at Kephart’s Music Center in Dubuque, for 1 year. I have been teaching at St. Mary’s since 2003 and I also teach music at St. Andrew-Thomas School in Potosi. I teach part time so I can be home with my children.
Why I teach? I teach music because I want children to have a general knowledge of music and to enjoy all kinds of music.
